Opening Day - January 2, 2013

We are opening the Broome Hut to the public on January 2nd 2013!

We need your help to move some heavy stuff - Batteries!
Don't want to pay for a gym membership but want a great work out? No problem, Grand Huts has a great project for you!
We need your help to carry 80 pound batteries up to the Broome Hut. We will be meeting at the trail head at 9 am on Saturday December 22nd. A strong back is necessary. Also helpful is a frame pack or a good pulk type sled. If you don't have a frame pack and need to borrow one, email Broomehutvolunteers@gmail.com to request one.
Think of this hard work as a good way to earn credits for eating more Christmas cookies!

We are almost finished but could still use volunteers for the finishing touches!

We are putting the finishing touches on the hut  could still use your help! To volunteer, simply show up on site between 9 am - 4:30 any day of the week. Remember, for every 8 hours that you volunteer, you get a free night stay at the hut.
Thank you!
A big THANK YOU must go out to everyone that came out to the Lions club's ninth annual Festival of Trees fundraiser!
Volunteers:  WE NEED YOUR HOURS!
Since our last e-blast, only 16 volunteers out 316 have submitted their hours!

We are getting ready to launch both our public reservation system as well as our volunteer reservation system to reserve the hut. For volunteers, we need to collect your hours as soon as possible and before the reservation system launches. We expect to launch the volunteer reservation system shortly (the latest will be on Dec. 17th). Please compile the dates and hours you worked and  email them to:

Broomehutvolunteers@gmail.com

It will be cross checked with the records from the hut. After your total hours have been confirmed you will be invited to make reservations.

We Could Still Use Your Help!

http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs127/1102437388394/img/53.jpg

A Message from the Project Manager:

"We are working on several major projects. First, the lower utility level needs to be insulated, then sheeted with OSB plywood type material - and finally have shelving built. Most anyone can insulate, moderate woodworking skills are needed to install osb and build shelving.  Upstairs we can use woodworkers who can install  the 6,000 square feet of pine paneling on walls and ceilings. We will also be "painting" the inside of the exterior walls with a synthetic plaster type material.  In short, lot's happening and we need help. The trail is still good, slippery to be sure (shoe creepers are good or just solid tread on your hiking boots) but no need for skis or snowshoes. Check Facebook for closures, but we should be working seven days a week. A few volunteers have been sleeping in the cabin - we have heat and a working toilet, but no cooking or water facilities yet. I hope to see you on site!!"

Winter is approaching fast but we could still use your help!

A message from the Project Manager:
"As fall brings snow to the job site, we have found fewer volunteers brave the cold. We will be hooking up pellet stoves this week, ensuring we have a warm place to work. The Second Creek Basin is particularly beautiful as winter closes in. We hope you can help us make the final push to ensure the cabin is open for use this winter."

Can't make it to the Broome Hut?
Lend your support by donating:

As a fun new fundraising project on our website, the Pixel Project allows donors to buy pixels which will reveal parts of the hut's architectural rendering. Each pixel donation will help 'build' the photo of the hut while helping to build the actual physical hut through fundraising. And best of all, it only costs $1 per pixel! Donations will visually 'build' the photo by turning the darkened photo into vibrant color. Click the link below to learn more about the Pixel Project:

Join the team and become our Onsite Volunteer Coordinator:

We are looking for an active volunteer who can act as our Onsite Volunteer Coordinator throughout the summer. This person would need to go up to the hut and be onsite for a minimum of one to two days a week, from between 9 am and 1 pm most days.
